Lady Franklin Museum
‘Ancanthe’
This building first opened in October 1843 as a museum of fine art. The site had been chosen by Lady Jane Franklin in 1841 and called ‘Ancanthe’ - a Greek word meaning ‘vale of flowers.’ The property was transferred to the Hobart City Council in 1938, and since 1949 the building has been leased to the Art Society of Tasmania.

Behind Bars

(c)hobartdaily.com - Two dogs behind bars at the dogs home at Hobart

I took a drive out to the Dogs Home in Hobart today as i wanted a look and in the front yard there was theseĀ  two guys aged around 4 months picked up from the side of the road chewing on a dead wombat a month ago. Charming i know but a dog has to do what a dog has to do and its a dog eat wombat kind of world out there!

I always find it kind of sad at the dogs home, especially seeing older dogs who have been in homes and then left at the home with their world turned upside down. But the good thing about the dogs home is they have a home for as long as it takes for an adoption, a fresh blanket every day and regular walking. In winter they also heat the concrete in their enclosures is heated. But they still need a proper home.

If not for the fact that i have a dog then i would have loved to have taken both home with me right then and there. But i pick up the shorter dog on the left on Saturday.

Patches of ice on Lake Dobson, Mt Field National Park, Tasmania. Well outside of Hobart (around 70 km) is Mt Field National Park which features eucalyptus forest to alpine moorland. While today’s photo looks anything but, it was just taken in a gap in the snowfall and when i left it was really starting to come down
